Welcome to your journey of healing and caring for your new tattoo! I’m here to guide you through every step to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully. Please follow these aftercare instructions closely.
Before applying the second skin to your new tattoo, I ensured a safe and optimal healing environment. Your skin was thoroughly disinfected with chlorhexidine soap, an effective agent for sterilizing and reducing bacteria. A tiny layer of Bepanthen Tattoo ointment was then applied to the tattooed area to promote initial healing, keeping the tattoo moisturized and aiding in skin repair. Additionally, the surrounding area of your tattoo was disinfected with alcohol to minimize any risk of infection.

CARING FOR YOUR TATTOO WITH SECOND SKIN:

Leave the second skin on for a maximum of 2 days. It acts as a protective barrier, aiding the healing process and preventing sweating in the tattoo area. Normal observations such as air bubbles and fluid accumulation under the second skin are part of the healing process and are not a cause for concern. Do not puncture them. The second skin is designed to be breathable and waterproof, effectively protecting against bacteria.

SHOWERING WITH SECOND SKIN:

You can shower normally with the second skin on. However, avoid prolonged exposure to water. Keep your showers brief and avoid direct high-pressure water on the tattooed area. Don’t go swimming or immerse your tattoo in water. This includes avoiding swimming pools, hot tubs, and ocean swimming.

AVOID EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT:

The second skin doesn’t offer UV protection! Avoid sunbathing or exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight. If you must be in the sun, keep the tattooed area covered with clothing.

HOW TO REMOVE SECOND SKIN:

After 2 days maximum, remove the second skin during a slightly warm shower. The warmth and moisture will help ease the removal. Gently peel off the second skin, starting from an edge, and avoid pulling harshly to prevent skin irritation.

ALLERGIC REACTIONS AND REDNESS:

If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, such as unusual redness, swelling, itching, or rash under the second skin, it’s important to remove the dressing and consult with me immediately. These could be signs of an allergic reaction or other complications that need prompt attention.
If there’s a significant amount of fluid under the second skin, or if the dressing becomes loose or causes discomfort, it may need to be removed earlier than planned.

POST-SECOND SKIN CARE:

Once the second skin is removed.
  1. Gently wash the tattoo with a fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water.
  2. Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid scraping or rubbing the area!
  3. Apply a thin layer of tattoo-specific healing ointment, such as Bepanthen Tattoo, to keep it moisturised.
Keep following these steps minimum 3 times per day for at least 5 days.

WHY I RECOMMEND BEPANTHEN TATTOO?

bepanthen
Doesn't contain dyes, fragrances, or preservatives. The ProVitamin B5 formula creates a waterproof and breathable protective film, ensuring optimal skin hydration. This helps the skin regenerate and recover quickly. The protective layer also prevents unwanted friction of fresh tattoos against clothing.

AVOID PICKING OR SCRATCHING:

Don’t scratch or pick at your tattoo, even if it starts to itch. It can interfere with the healing process and cause damage.

AVOID EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT:

Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight during the healing period. If you must be in the sun, use a high SPF+50 to shield your tattoo and use clothes if possible. I recommend using SPF+50 even if the tattoo heals. Additionally, incorporating Vitamin C into your diet can help promote faster skin regeneration. Vitamin C is known to support collagen production and overall skin health.

WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING:

Opt for loose and breathable clothing that doesn't rub against your tattoo. This prevents irritation and allows the tattoo to breathe. Cover with a clothing tattoo area while you sleep.

AVOID SWEATING, SWIMMING AND SOAKING:

Take a break from any sports activities to prevent sweating. Keep your tattoo away from bodies of water, such as pools, hot tubs, and baths, until it's fully healed. I recommend a minimum of 10 days. Excessive moisture can delay the healing process.
Please exercise caution when displaying your tattoo to animals, people, and enthusiastic relatives who may be tempted to touch, lick, or poke it. It is crucial to protect your tattoo from any potential harm.
During the healing process, it is normal for tattoos to experience itching, discomfort, or even a burning sensation. The regeneration of the skin is a highly individualised process, so it's important to remember that healing times may different. Don't be surprised if someone's tattoo appears to heal faster than yours, as each person's body responds differently
Watch out for any signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, or pus. If you notice any, consult a medical professional immediately.
